Brian McGuinness Biography
Brian McGuinness (22 October 1927 – 23 December 2019) was a prominent Wittgenstein scholar and philosopher. He is best known for his translation, alongside David Pears, of the Tractatus-Logico-Philosophicus. McGuinness began his academic career as a tutee of RM Hare and later became a Fellow and Tutor at Queen's College, Oxford University from 1953 to 1988. He also held a post at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study and became a professor at the University of Siena in Italy in 1990. McGuinness was recognized for his contributions to philosophy and social sciences and served as the director of the faculty of philosophy and social sciences at the University of Siena from 1990 to 1993.
