Brianne Pfannenstiel (born 1988) is an American journalist and chief politics reporter for The Des Moines Register. She gained recognition for co-moderating the seventh Democratic debate in January 2020 alongside Wolf Blitzer and Abby Phillip. Pfannenstiel was born in Kansas to parents Peggy Jo and Pat and graduated from the University of Kansas in 2010 with a degree in Journalism. She started her career as a reporter for The Kansas City Star and Lawrence Journal-World, covering the 2010 United States elections. Later, she joined the Kansas City Business Journal and in 2015, moved to Iowa to work for The Des Moines Register. Pfannenstiel's extensive coverage of the 2016 Iowa caucus included reporting on the Scott Walker and Donald Trump campaigns. She was selected as Chief Politics Reporter for the 2020 United States presidential election.
