Brittany Amber Howard (born October 2, 1988) is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. She is best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and main songwriter of rock bands Alabama Shakes, Thunderbitch, and Bermuda Triangle. With Alabama Shakes, Howard has received nine Grammy Award nominations, winning four, including Best Alternative Music Album. In 2019, she released her debut solo studio album, Jaime, which was critically acclaimed and earned her seven Grammy nominations, winning Best Rock Song for 'Stay High'. Howard was born in Athens, Alabama, and comes from a mixed racial background. Her upbringing in a junk yard home, which burned down due to a lightning strike, has shaped her life and musical journey.
