John Kelly Lewis, known as Buddy Lewis, was a professional baseball player who played as a third baseman/right fielder for the Washington Senators throughout his career. Born on August 10, 1916, in Gastonia, North Carolina, Lewis began playing baseball at the age of 12 and quickly showed promise. In 1934, he played for Post 23, a team that reached the Legion's World Series. Although he was offered a tryout with the New York Giants, he ultimately joined the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Senators' farm club. Lewis made his major league debut in 1935, and throughout his career, he showcased his skills as a left-handed batter and right-handed thrower. He played for the Senators until 1947, with a brief hiatus during World War II. Lewis was a consistent performer, known for his .303 batting average and 40 doubles in the 1935 season.
