    Carly Fiorina, born Cara Carleton Sneed on September 6, 1954, is an American businesswoman and politician. She is primarily known for her role as the CEO of Hewlett-Packard (HP) from 1999 to 2005, where she became the first woman to lead a Fortune Top-20 company. During her tenure, Fiorina oversaw the largest technology sector merger at the time, with HP acquiring rival computer manufacturer Compaq. This transaction made HP the world's largest seller of personal computers. Despite laying off 30,000 U.S. employees, the number of employees grew to 150,000 during her tenure. Following a boardroom disagreement, she resigned as CEO and chair in 2005. Fiorina later ran for the United States Senate in 2010 and the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
