Cassandra Wilson

Cassandra Wilson (born December 4, 1955) is an American jazz singer, songwriter, and producer. Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, Wilson has become one of the most successful female Jazz singers. She is known for her distinct timbre and attack, expanding the boundaries of jazz by infusing elements of blues, country, and folk music. Wilson has received critical acclaim and has won multiple awards, including two Grammys. Time magazine recognized her as "America's Best Singer" in 2001. Wilson's musical journey began with her parents' influence - her father, a guitarist and music teacher, and her mother, an elementary school teacher. She received classical training in piano during her early years.
