Chan Kinchla, born on May 29, 1969, is a Canadian-American musician known for his role as the guitarist in the jam band Blues Traveler. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Kinchla attended Princeton High School in New Jersey where he began playing guitar with John Popper in 1986. He is the older brother of Blues Traveler bassist Tad Kinchla. As one of the original members of the band, Kinchla played gigs in New York City before securing a record deal with A&M. Thanks to a bartender who had a job with David Letterman, Blues Traveler made their national television debut on The David Letterman Show. Kinchla fondly remembers Letterman as the person who gave them their first national exposure.
