Charles Joseph Crist Jr. is an American attorney and politician who served as the 44th Governor of Florida from 2007 to 2011 and as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 13th congressional district from 2017 to 2022. He has been a member of the Democratic Party since 2012, previously a Republican before becoming an independent in 2010. Crist served in the Florida Senate from 1993 to 1999 and later as Florida's education commissioner from 2001 to 2003 and attorney general from 2003 to 2007. He was elected Governor of Florida in 2006. Crist ran for the U.S. Senate in 2010 but lost to Marco Rubio. He has had a long and varied career in politics.
