Charlton Heston Biography
Charlton Heston (born John Charles Carter; October 4, 1923 – April 5, 2008) was an American actor and political activist. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Moses in The Ten Commandments (1956) and won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Ben-Hur (1959). Heston appeared in several notable films, including The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Touch of Evil (1958), Planet of the Apes (1968), and Soylent Green (1973). In addition to his acting career, Heston was an outspoken supporter of civil rights and actively advocated against racism. He switched his political affiliation from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in 1987.
