Cher (born Cherilyn Sarkisian; May 20, 1946) is an American singer, actress, and television personality. She rose to fame in 1965 as one half of the folk rock duo Sonny & Cher, before launching a successful solo career. Known as the 'Goddess of Pop', Cher has a distinctive contralto singing voice and has worked in various areas of entertainment. She achieved chart success with solo hits such as 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' and 'You Better Sit Down Kids'.
