Hanks has had recurring roles on popular television series such as Empire, Shameless, and Your Honor. He is the third child of Tom Hanks and the first child born to Hanks and Rita Wilson. Hanks attended the Oakley School, a therapeutic boarding school, and later studied theater at Northwestern University. His acting career began with his debut role in the 2007 film Bratz, and he went on to star in several small film roles in the early 2010s.
