Christopher Durang
Christopher Ferdinand Durang (born January 2, 1949) is an American playwright known for his outrageous and often absurd comedy. His career gained national prominence with the play Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, which won him the Obie Award for Best Playwright in 1980. Durang's play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2013. He has also served as co-director of the Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program at Juilliard. Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Durang grew up in Berkeley Heights. His parents were WWII veterans, and his father was an architect while his mother worked as a secretary.
