Cindy Lou McCain (Hensley; born May 20, 1954) is an American diplomat, businesswoman, and humanitarian. She currently serves as the executive director of the World Food Programme and previously held the position of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture from 2021 to 2023. McCain was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, and is the daughter of Jim Hensley, a wealthy beer distributor. She obtained bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern California before working as a special education teacher. McCain married U.S. Senator John McCain in 1980 and played an active role in his political career. They had three children together and adopted another. From 1988 to 1995, she founded and operated the nonprofit organization, the American Voluntary Medical Team.
