Cleo Sylvestre, born Cleopatra Mary Palmer on April 19, 1945, is an English actress known for her work in film, stage, and television. She made history as the first black woman to play a leading role at the National Theatre in London. Raised in Euston, north London, by her mother Laureen Sylvestre, a cabaret artist, Cleo attended Camden School for Girls and the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. In addition to her acting career, Cleo released a single in 1964 called 'To Know Him Is to Love Him', produced by Andrew Loog Oldham and backed by The Rolling Stones. Following her West End debut in 'Wise Child' alongside Sir Alec Guinness, Cleo focused on her theatre and television work.
