Colin Rand Kaepernick (born November 3, 1987) is an American civil rights activist and football quarterback. He played six seasons for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. Kaepernick gained recognition in 2016 for kneeling during the national anthem at the start of NFL games as a form of protest against police brutality and racial inequality in the United States. Prior to his professional career, he played college football for the Nevada Wolf Pack, where he earned the title of Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year twice. In the 2011 NFL Draft, Kaepernick was selected by the 49ers in the second round and eventually became their starting quarterback.
