Cornel Wilde
Cornel Wilde (born Kornél Lajos Weisz; October 13, 1912 – October 16, 1989) was a Hungarian-American actor and filmmaker. His acting career began in 1935 on Broadway and he made small film appearances starting in 1936. By the 1940s, Wilde had signed with 20th Century Fox and became a major leading man. He received an Academy Award nomination for his role in 1945's A Song to Remember. In the 1950s, Wilde expanded his career to writing, producing, and directing films while still acting. He was also involved in songwriting. Born in 1912 in Privigye, Hungary, to Hungarian Jewish parents, he was named after his paternal grandfather.
