Cristela Alonzo (born 1978), is an American actress, stand-up comedian, writer, and producer. She is best known for creating and starring in the ABC sitcom Cristela, which made her the first Mexican American woman to create, produce, write, and star in her own US primetime comedy. Alonzo was raised in San Juan, Texas, as the youngest of four children. Her mother, Natalia Gonzalez, worked double shifts at a Mexican restaurant, while her father, Adalberto Alonzo, was absent from her life. She has three siblings and spent time with her paternal grandmother during her childhood. Alonzo's father passed away in 2009.
