Cynthia Ann McKinney, born on March 17, 1955, is an American politician and former member of the Democratic Party. She served six terms in the United States House of Representatives, becoming the first African American woman elected to represent Georgia in the House. McKinney left the Democratic Party and ran as the presidential nominee of the Green Party in 2008. She also ran for vice president in 2020 after being nominated by the Green Party of Alaska. McKinney is currently an assistant professor at North South University. Throughout her political career, she represented different districts in Georgia and was re-elected multiple times before being defeated in the 2002 Democratic primary.
