Damon Albarn, born on March 23, 1968, is an English and Icelandic musician, singer, songwriter, and composer. He is widely known as the frontman and main lyricist of the rock band Blur, and the co-creator and primary musical contributor of the virtual band Gorillaz. Albarn grew up in Leytonstone, East London, and Colchester, Essex. He attended the Stanway School, where he met guitarist Graham Coxon and formed Blur. The band gained popularity in the UK with albums like 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' (1993), 'Parklife' (1994), and 'The Great Escape' (1995). Albarn's songwriting incorporates influences from British bands of the 1960s, as well as lo-fi, art rock, electronic, and world music.
