Dan Cook
Daniel John Cook Jr. (August 12, 1926 – July 3, 2008) was a sports writer for the San Antonio Express-News for 51 years. Known as a 'sports icon', Cook started his career at the Houston Post before joining the San Antonio Express-News in 1952 and retiring in 2003. He also worked as a television sports anchor at KENS from 1956 until 2000, during which time the station was owned by the San Antonio Express-News. Cook gained national attention in 1956 when he confronted a suspect in a Houston robbery, leading to his own arrest and subsequent exoneration. He is most recognized for popularizing the phrase 'the opera ain't over till the fat lady sings'.
