Dan Desmond

Dan Desmond (3 October 1913 – 9 December 1964) was an Irish Labour Party politician and Teachta Dála (TD) for seventeen years. He was born on 3 October 1913 in Crosshaven, County Cork. Desmond was a Cork-based trade unionist and a founder member of Fianna Fáil. However, he later broke from the party when they introduced the Wages Standstill Order in 1939 and joined the Labour Party. Desmond served as secretary of the Federation of Rural Workers and was an organiser at the county level. He was elected to Dáil Éireann in 1944 and remained a TD until his death on 9 December 1964.
