Daniel Southern Biography
Daniel Mark 'Danny' Southern (born 1 January 1975) is a former Australian rules footballer who played as a defender for the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited from Claremont in Western Australia and made his debut in 1994. In his debut season, Southern played 24 games and received 12 Brownlow Medal votes. He reached his 100th game milestone in 2000 but retired due to a knee injury. After retiring from football, Southern moved to Egypt in 2004 and worked as a tour leader and ground manager for Intrepid Travel. He converted to Islam in 2005, and in 2009, he married an Egyptian Muslim woman named Reham. They have a son named Zakaria Daniel Mark Southern, who was born amidst the chaos of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011.
