Dave Attell (born January 18, 1965) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. He gained popularity as the host of Comedy Central's Insomniac with Dave Attell, a show that developed a devoted following. Attell was born and raised in Rockville Centre, New York, and graduated from South Side High School. He went on to earn a degree in communications from New York University in 1987. Attell's early television appearances include VH1's Stand-Up Spotlight in 1988. He also made his first appearance on Late Show with David Letterman in 1993, catching the attention of Lorne Michaels, who recruited him as a writer and occasional performer on SNL.
