Dave East, born David Lawrence Brewster Jr. on June 3, 1988, is an American rapper. He gained attention in 2014 with his mixtape Black Rose, which caught the interest of fellow New York rapper Nas. Nas signed East to his label Mass Appeal Records in conjunction with Def Jam Recordings. In 2016, East was selected as part of XXL magazine's Freshman Class. He released several successful mixtapes, including Kairi Chanel and Paranoia: A True Story, featuring collaborations with Nas, Wiz Khalifa, and Chris Brown. East's debut studio album Survival was released in 2019 and reached number 11 on the Billboard 200. His mixtape Karma 3, released in 2020, received critical acclaim and peaked at number 36 on the Billboard 200.
