Dave Matthews

David John Matthews (born January 9, 1967) is an American musician, songwriter, record producer, and political activist. He gained recognition as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band (DMB). Born in Johannesburg, Matthews moved frequently between South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States during his upbringing. He began playing acoustic guitar at the age of nine. From 1991 to 2003, Matthews focused on songwriting and performing with DMB, which he formed in Charlottesville, Virginia. Additionally, he has pursued solo performances and produced other records. During the period from 2000 to 2010, DMB became the highest-grossing act in North America, and their album Away from the World (2012) set a record for seven consecutive number one chart debuts.
