David Alan Grier, born on June 30, 1956, is an American actor and comedian. He achieved recognition for his role as Jackie Robinson in the 1981 Broadway production of The First, earning a nomination at the 36th Tony Awards. Grier also appeared as James 'Thunder' Early in the musical Dreamgirls and won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for his role in the film Streamers. He starred in the stage production A Soldier's Play and its film adaptation, A Soldier's Story. Grier is known for his multiple characters on the sketch comedy series In Living Color and his role as Reverend Leon Lonnie Love on the Fox comedy series Martin from 1993 to 1997.
