David Downing

David Downing (born 1946) is a British author known for his mystery novels and nonfiction works. His books have garnered attention from esteemed publications such as Publishers Weekly, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. Downing specializes in crafting captivating stories set in World War II and Berlin, providing readers with authentic and compelling portrayals of the era. He is particularly renowned for his espionage thrillers featuring the character John Russell, an Anglo-American who navigates Germany during the 1940s. The series, known as 'The Station Series,' derives its titles from various train stations, mostly in Berlin. Downing holds a BA in Afro-Asian Studies and an MA in International Relations from the University of Sussex. Having traveled extensively, including visits to the Soviet Union and South and Central America, Downing resided in Boston, Massachusetts before relocating to Guildford in 1998.
