David Gulpilil (July 1, 1953 – November 29, 2021), known professionally as David Gulpilil and posthumously as David Dalaithngu, was an Indigenous Australian actor and dancer. He gained recognition for his roles in films such as Walkabout, Storm Boy, The Last Wave, Crocodile Dundee, Rabbit-Proof Fence, and The Tracker. Raised in a traditional lifestyle in Arnhem Land, Gulpilil was a skilled dancer when director Nicolas Roeg discovered his talent. He also made stage appearances and received numerous awards for his performances and lifetime achievements. Gulpilil was a prolific artist, publishing books and creating artworks. Despite uncertainty about his exact birthdate, Gulpilil's contributions to the entertainment industry and Indigenous representation were significant.
