David Keith Lynch is an American filmmaker, visual artist, musician, and actor. Born on January 20, 1946, Lynch is known for his critically acclaimed films with surrealist qualities. He has been honored with the Golden Lion in 2006 and an Honorary Academy Award in 2019. Lynch began his career as a painter before venturing into filmmaking in the late 1960s. His debut feature film, Eraserhead, was released in 1977. He has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for films such as The Elephant Man (1980), Blue Velvet (1986), and Mulholland Drive (2001).
