David Muir is an American journalist and anchor of ABC World News Tonight and co-anchor of the ABC News magazine 20/20. Born on November 8, 1973, in Syracuse, New York, Muir grew up in Onondaga Hill. He began his career at ABC News as the weekend anchor and primary substitute anchor on ABC's World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer, eventually succeeding her as the anchor on September 1, 2014. Muir's reporting has received numerous accolades, including multiple Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards. He has become one of the most visible journalists in America and as of 2019, World News Tonight with David Muir is the most watched newscast in the United States.
