David Sobel
David Sobel
David Sobel is an American educator and academic known for his contributions to the philosophy of place-based education. He has authored several books and numerous articles on the subject. Sobel earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Williams College and later obtained a Master of Education from Antioch University New England. He co-founded and directed the Harrisville Children's Center in New Hampshire from 1972 to 1975 and served as a curriculum coordinator for Yankee Lands: A Land Use Curriculum Project from 1980 to 1983. Sobel has been a core faculty member at Antioch University New England since 1977, and he currently holds the position of Core Faculty member and Director of Certificate Programs. Additionally, he was the chairperson for the Education Department from 1983 to 1997 and has been the director of Teacher Certification Programs since 1997.
