David Suchet is an English actor known for his work in British stage and television. He gained international recognition for his portrayal of Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot in the television series Agatha Christie's Poirot, receiving a BAFTA nomination for his performance. Suchet's notable television appearances include the roles of Edward Teller in Oppenheimer (1980) and Augustus Melmotte in The Way We Live Now (2001), for which he received RTS and BPG awards. Born in London, Suchet's father was a South African physician of Lithuanian-Jewish descent.
