David Yip Biography
David Nicholas Yip is a British actor and playwright, born on June 4, 1951, in Liverpool. He gained recognition for his role in the BBC series The Chinese Detective (1981–1982), becoming the first East Asian lead on British television. Yip's film credits include A View to a Kill (1985), Ping Pong (1986), and Break (2020). He also wrote and starred in the play Gold Mountain. On television, he appeared in Brookside (1989–1990), Spirit Warriors (2010), and Fortitude (2017–2018). Yip is known for his voice work and has presented documentaries on the Chinese community in Liverpool. In 2022, he received honorary doctorates from the University of Essex and Edge Hill University.
