Deepak Chopra (born October 22, 1946) is an Indian-American author and alternative medicine advocate. He is well-known for his involvement in the New Age movement and has written numerous books and created videos on alternative medicine. Chopra's discussions on quantum healing have received criticism for being incoherent and misusing scientific terms. He studied medicine in India before moving to the United States in 1970, where he completed his medical residency and fellowship. Chopra worked as the chief of staff at New England Memorial Hospital before resigning to establish the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Center. He gained a following after being interviewed on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1993.
