Diana Jean Krall is a Canadian jazz pianist and singer known for her contralto vocals. Born on November 16, 1964, in Nanaimo, British Columbia, she is the daughter of an elementary school teacher and an accountant. Krall's father played piano at home, and her mother sang in a community choir, which influenced her musical upbringing. With over 15 million albums sold worldwide, including six million in the US, Krall is one of the best-selling artists of her time. She has had eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums, making her the only jazz singer to achieve this feat. Krall has won three Grammy Awards and eight Juno Awards, and has released nine gold, three platinum, and seven multi-platinum albums.
