Dikembe Mutombo Biography
Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo is a Congolese-American former professional basketball player. Born on June 25, 1966, Mutombo played 18 seasons in the NBA as a 7 ft, 260 lb center. He moved to the United States at age 21 to play college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas. In 1991, he was selected by the Denver Nuggets as the fourth overall pick in the NBA draft. Throughout his career, Mutombo played for six NBA teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets. Known for his shot-blocking and defensive skills, Mutombo received the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award four times and was named to eight All-Star teams.
