Dimebag Darrell (August 20, 1966 – December 8, 2004) was an American musician, best known as the guitarist of the heavy metal bands Pantera and Damageplan. Alongside his brother Vinnie Paul, he co-founded both bands. Born to country music producer Jerry Abbott, Darrell started playing guitar at age 12. Pantera released their debut album, 'Metal Magic' in 1983 when he was just 16. Initially performing glam metal under the stage name Diamond Darrell, the band transitioned to a groove metal sound with the release of 'Cowboys from Hell' in 1990. Darrell is often considered one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time.
