He became famous for the phrase 'In a world...', which became a humorous catchphrase due to its frequent use in movie trailers. LaFontaine was widely recognized in the film industry and earned nicknames such as 'Thunder Throat', 'The Voice of God', and 'The King of Movie Trailers'. He also gained popularity through commercials for GEICO insurance and the Mega Millions lottery game. LaFontaine was born in Duluth, Minnesota, and his distinctive bass voice developed after his voice cracked at age 13. He voiced promos for the TV show Numb3rs on CBS.
