Joseph 'Dandy' Don Meredith (April 10, 1938 – December 5, 2010) was an American football player, sports commentator, and actor. He played as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL from 1960 to 1968, earning three Pro Bowl selections. After retiring from football, Meredith became a color analyst for NFL telecasts from 1970 to 1984, including as an original member of the Monday Night Football broadcast team. In addition to his career in sports, he appeared in a dozen films and seven major television shows, often in starring roles. Notably, he portrayed Bert Jameson in the recurring role on Police Story. Born in Mount Vernon, Texas, Meredith attended Mount Vernon High School where he excelled in football and basketball.
