Born in St Budeaux, Plymouth, Devon, Sinden began his career as a film star in the 1950s, featuring in movies such as 'Mogambo' (1953) and 'The Cruel Sea' (1953). He gained recognition for his award-winning Shakespearean performances and became a prominent figure in the West End theatre. Sinden received critical acclaim for his role in 'King Lear,' winning the 1977 Evening Standard Award for Best Actor.
