Andwele Gardner, professionally known as Dwele, is an American R&B singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Born on February 14, 1978, in Detroit, Michigan, Dwele was raised in a musically inclined family. He began playing the piano at the young age of six and went on to master the trumpet, bass, and guitar. At the age of ten, he tragically lost his father, which deeply impacted him and led him to use music as a form of therapy. Dwele draws inspiration from artists like Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and Miles Davis, as well as hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest. He gained recognition after working with Slum Village and their producer J Dilla, and his debut demo, 'The Rize,' quickly sold out within a week.
