Ed Koch

Ed Koch (1924-2013) was an American politician, lawyer, political commentator, film critic, and television personality. He served as a United States Representative from 1969 to 1977 and as the mayor of New York City from 1978 to 1989. Known as a lifelong Democrat, Koch was a self-described 'liberal with sanity' and implemented various initiatives during his time as mayor, including a public housing renewal program. He was also a strong supporter of Israel. Koch gained popularity for his hands-on approach, often riding the New York City Subway and greeting passersby on street corners.
