Ed Lauter (October 30, 1938 – October 16, 2013) was an American actor and stand-up comedian. With a career spanning over 40 years, he appeared in more than 200 films and TV series episodes. Born and raised in Long Beach, New York, Lauter was of German and Irish descent. He graduated with a B.A. degree in English Literature from the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University. Lauter served in the United States Army for two years. He started his acting career with a small role in the Broadway production of The Great White Hope. His screen acting debut was in a 1971 episode of Mannix. Lauter's first theatrical film role was in Dirty Little Billy in 1972.
