Ed Viesturs
Edmund Viesturs is an American high-altitude mountaineer, corporate speaker, and author. Born on June 22, 1959, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he was raised in Rockford, Illinois, and later moved to Seattle, Washington. Viesturs holds the distinction of being the first American climber to ascend all 14 of the world's eight-thousander mountains without supplemental oxygen. He has successfully summitted peaks over 8,000 meters on 21 occasions, including Mount Everest, which he has conquered seven times. Viesturs took part in the 1996 IMAX filming of Everest after the Mount Everest disaster, and also had a cameo in the Hollywood film Vertical Limit. He is portrayed by Clive Standen in the 2015 remake of Everest, which depicts the 1996 Mount Everest disaster.
