Edward Everett Horton Jr. (March 18, 1886 – September 29, 1970) was an American character actor known for his work in film, theater, radio, television, and voice acting for animated cartoons. Born in Brooklyn, New York City, Horton's father worked for The New York Times, and his mother was of Scottish descent from Cuba. He attended Boys' High School and Baltimore City College before studying German at Oberlin College. However, he was asked to leave after a prank involving a dummy. Horton continued his studies at Columbia University and began his acting career on stage. He went on to have a prolific career, appearing in numerous movies and TV shows.
