Edward Petherbridge Biography
Edward Petherbridge (born 3 August 1936) is an English actor, writer, and artist. Known for his roles in various television adaptations and stage performances, Petherbridge gained recognition for his portrayal of Lord Peter Wimsey in the 1987 BBC adaptations of Dorothy L. Sayers' novels. He also had a notable performance as Guildenstern in Tom Stoppard's play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. In 1980, Petherbridge delivered a memorable portrayal of Newman Noggs in the Royal Shakespeare Company's adaptation of Charles Dickens' The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. Born in West Bowling, Bradford, Petherbridge attended Newby Primary school and later Grange Grammar School. He received training as an actor at Esme Church's Northern Theatre School.
