Eileen Heckart (March 29, 1919 – December 31, 2001) was an American stage and screen actress. Born Anna Eileen Herbert in Columbus, Ohio, she was adopted by her maternal grandmother's husband, J.W. Heckart, and took on his surname. Heckart graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in drama and studied at HB Studio in New York City. Her Broadway career started as an assistant stage manager and understudy. Notable stage credits include The Voice of the Turtle, Picnic, The Bad Seed, A View from the Bridge, A Memory of Two Mondays, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, and A Family Affair. Heckart's career spanned nearly 60 years.
