Davis has also gained recognition for her acting, winning an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence in Performance. She resides in Brooklyn. Davis grew up in San Francisco, California, where she developed her passion for dance and piano. She is the niece of political activist Angela Davis. Davis holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a Master of Fine Arts from the Actors Studio, where she specialized in playwriting and acting. Her talents also extend to dance, with a notable skill level that could have led to admission to Alvin Ailey.
