Eli Herschel Wallach (December 7, 1915 – June 24, 2014) was an American actor known for his character actor roles in film, television, and stage. Born in New York City, Wallach's entertainment career spanned over six decades. He received accolades including a BAFTA Award, a Tony Award, and an Emmy Award. Wallach had over 90 film credits and was known for his work in method acting. He was a founding member of the Actors Studio and studied under Sanford Meisner and Lee Strasberg. Wallach and his wife Anne Jackson were a notable acting couple in American theater. His notable stage performance in The Rose Tattoo (1951) earned him a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.
