Emily Mitchell Biography
Emily Mitchell (born April 26, 1975) is an Anglo-American writer. She is best known for her debut novel, The Last Summer of the World, published by W. W. Norton & Company in 2007. The novel, which revolves around the photographer Edward Steichen during World War I, was a finalist for the 2008 Young Lions Award for fiction. Mitchell received her undergraduate education at Middlebury College in 1997 and later earned her Master of Fine Arts from Brooklyn College, studying under Michael Cunningham. Her writing has been featured in various publications including Guernica, The Indiana Review, AGNI, The Nation, and The Utne Reader. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Maryland.
